When it comes to the issue of tongues as the Pentecostals teach it,most are very confused. That applies both to those who believe in speaking in tongues and those who do not.
When you speak to Pentecostals concerning tongues for the most part they themselves are very confused and at variance with each other.
If you were to ask some Pentecostals why they speak in tongues they would hesitate or reply for power, the pastor tells them to or because they see everybody else doing it.
Now the Pentecostals claim that speaking in tongues is the initial evidence of receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
For many years I myself was a Pentecostal so I have some understanding of what they teach.
I thank God today that He revealed to me the Church of God.
We sang a song titled "I found a better way". This statement itself suggests other ways, but the Lord showed me the ONLY WAY.

The Lord Jesus himself declared in John chapter 14 that "he is the way, the truth and the life".
In proving any doctrine, the Word, the Scriptures must always be the plumb line. We must be prepared to judge every doctrine by what God has revealed in His Word

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Now any doctrine that says that the initial evidence of having the Holy Ghost is speaking in an unknown tongue cannot be simply accepted on face value.
This doctrine implies that all who do not speak in this "unknown tongue" do not have the third Person of the Godhead abiding within them.
There are even some Pentecostals who claim that a person is not even saved unless they speak in this "unknown tongue".
This doctrine therefore is not a side issue. It cannot be dismissed as simply a non-essential. This doctrine goes to the very core of salvation and thus must be examined by the Word of God to see if it has any validity.
Pentecostals are truly confused and that is why we call Pentecostalism "the Babel of Confusion"
Babel refers to the place where God confused the languages.
